Graduation trip to Barcelona

23 juni 2015 - Barcelona, Spanje

Hello everyonee,

I spend last four days in Barcelona with my mum as a graduation gift. It is kind of a tradition in our family, my sister did it when she graduated and my little brother is also going to do it. It was great and so relaxing. We stayed in this very cute boutique hotel called ‘Catalunya Cathedral Hotel’ which is located at the ‘Barrio Gótico’ (Gothic quarter). Because it was my mums third time in that hotel, we got a free upgrade to a superior room! Loved it!

We arrived on Saturday and we immediately did a walk through the quarter. We also visited the beautiful Cathedral about 100 meters from our hotel. The weather was really nice, maybe even too hot for a citytrip.

The next morning, a Sunday morning, we started the day with a huge breakfast buffet. After that, we went to a bike shop with the tube. We were going to do a bike tour on beach cruisers with flowers on it. We had a Dutch guide which was pretty comfortable. We drove past Gaudí buildings, really pretty parks, the beach and more. I always like exploring a city with a bike, there are many different bike tour shops in Barcelona.

That day we also visited Camp Nou, the Barcelona football stadium. I love to watch football and I’m actually a Barcelona fan so it was very interesting to see the stadium and the changing rooms and stuff. It was €23,- which I feel is kind of expensive for what you get to see. You can only see the visitors changing room and not the Barcelona one. You can’t touch the field or something and in some places you can’t even make pictures or you have to pay for it again. A bit overpriced I must say.

That evening we went for a dinner with friends of my mum. They were also in Barcelona that weekend so we needed to see them. The restaurant was close to the Plaça d’Espanya where there was going to be a fountain show. After dinner we went to see that beautiful show with water, light and music. You can enjoy this show every Thursday till Sunday from 9 till 11 in the evening. It is definitely worth it!

On the third day we were going to the Sagrada Familia, the never finished basilica. It was very impressive. You definitely should go to see it if you are in Barcelona. One tip, buy your tickets online when you are still at home. It will save a lot of time. It is also possible to visit one of the towers, very cool and you will have an amazing view so please give it a try!

That afternoon we were exhausted and our feet almost fell of our legs haha, that was why we decided to go to the beach J. It was very busy and the water was still a bit cold, but we definitely enjoyed this relaxing part of our trip. That night we went to bed early, we were very very tired.

On our last day in Barcelona we decided to do a bit of shopping and afterwards we bought a ticket for a hop on, hop off bus. We had already seen the biggest part of the city but it was nice to see a lot again before we were going back to The Netherlands. The only place where we got off the bus was ‘Parc Guëll’ which was also very beautiful.

That evening we went back to The Netherlands with a bit of a tan and a bag full of memories.
